The majority of research examines the relationships between viewers and athletes, soap opera actors, and news media personalities. However, it is evident that parasocial relationships are forming – and strengthening – on social media channels like YouTube. For example, YouTube beauty vloggers have become one the most popular types of YouTuber, with some boasting over 7-million subscribers. Brands turn to them to create user-generated content to serve as product endorsements or ads – ads aimed at highly segmented audiences. As evidenced in the comment sections of videos, viewers often share feelings of knowing, empathy, and care for the YouTuber. The power of the pseudo relationship is alive and well on YouTube. An experiment examining the interaction revealed a strong relationship building opportunity and influencer power over purchase intention. Interactions go beyond simple product placement and branded entertainment; instead, viewers socialize with YouTube celebrities, whom may also serve as a product ambassador. In a sense, YouTube celebrities become a friend sharing their opinion. The traditional word-of- mouth opinion sharing is now on a grander scale, and in a more intimate setting.Leslie will discuss the power of parasocial relationships in digital media and its ability to influence viewers while serving as a conduit for relationship building between a brand and targeted public.About Dr. Rasmussen:Dr. Rasmussen has been an Assistant Professor of Communication at Xavier University since 2014. She teaches courses in public relations, advertising and social media, and has partnered with local organizations like the Music Resource Center (Evanston), Findlay Market Farmstands, and the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. She also serves as the Communication Arts Department Internship Coordinator and Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Faculty Advisor. Dr. Rasmussen’s research examines social media as a vehicle for mobilizing publics for a number of reasons, and in different contexts. Most recently, she conducted research examining parasocial interactions and relationships on social media and its role in influencer communication. Dr. Rasmussen previously taught at Iowa Central Community College (2007-2009), University of Southern Mississippi (2009-2012), and at Utah Valley University (2012-2014) where she was named University Faculty Member of the Year in 2013 and PRSSA Faculty Member of the Year in 2013. She earned a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2012."Content Planning and Execution: Bringing your Content Strategy to Life"Brooke Hathaway-Destanis, Owner & Consultant, Anti-Slavery GroupContent strategy, planning and then execution is a constant battle we all face. Why Your Website Isn’t Showing Up On Google

by Ray Cheselka @ webFEAT Complete

At webFEAT, we get this question all the time: “Why isn’t my business showing up on Google?” or “I used to rank on page 1, and now I’m nowhere to be found. Why did my rankings drop off?” Whether you’re a new or existing business,  the first page for searches relevant to your business or specifically for your brand is of the utmost importance. If you’re a new business trying to generate exposure and you succeed, that will not matter if folks can’t find you online. Let’s say a person hears about your business or sees an ad and then goes online to search for your brand name. If your brand’s website and perhaps a business listing don’t appear, you will likely lose a prospective customer. If you provide a service and someone searches “(service) Cincinnati” or something more specific, and you don’t come up, the ones appearing (your competitors) will get the business. Your website’s appearance in Google and other search engines depends on various factors. For branded search, it’s not too difficult to get you indexed and appearing, but for specific, non-branded product/service searches that are more competitive, it takes some real SEO effort. In this post we’ll […]

Yoast’s Readability Score + Focus Keyword Factors: How Much Should You Pay Attention to Them?

If you’re new to Yoast’s SEO plugin within WordPress, you may be wondering, “Do the Yoast readability and focus keyword scores make a difference in the success of my page?” Well, there are a couple of ways you can look at that question. If you mean, “do they have a direct impact on my rankings,” the answer is no. If you mean, “do they use best practices as guidelines that, when followed, can improve your rankings,” the answer is yes. As an SEO, it’s easy to get in the habit of following these guidelines without giving them much thought, but if you’re a business owner or marketing manager who is unfamiliar with most SEO practices, you may have to do some research. Evansville’s Professional Transportation, Inc. Expands Operations

by admin @ Professional Transportation, Inc.

Acquiring new company, adding 100 new jobs EVANSVILLE, INDIANA (September 24, 2012) – Professional Transportation, Inc., one of the largest providers of ground transportation services in the United States, announced plans today to expand their headquarters at 3700 Morgan Avenue, creating up to 100 new jobs in Evansville over the next three years. The expansion is a result of the company’s recent acquisition of the Crew Transport division of Coach America, a former competitor. Professional Transportation, Inc. currently provides rail crew logistical service in all territories east of the Mississippi River. With the acquisition of Coach America, the company will expand current operations by providing additional rail crew services in the Northwest region of the United States serving BNSF Railway, Canadian Pacific Railroad, Utah Railway, Portland and Western Railroad. “PTI gave careful consideration when evaluating where to expand its transportation services with the Coach acquisition,” according to Steve McClellan, Vice President of Professional Transportation. “Based on the resources of qualified workers and exceptional local universities, Evansville, Indiana was naturally selected as the expansion area of choice.” An investment of $5.45 million will be made by Professional Transportation, Inc. to lease, equip and expand 10,000 additional square-feet at the current Morgan Avenue location. Professional Transportation Inc. currently employs nearly 230 workers at the Morgan Avenue location and hopes to add a total of 100 new workers in a variety of occupations by 2015. The new occupations include; management, information technology, financial and voucher analysts, operations support, human resources and dispatch coordinators. The economic impact on the Evansville region from Professional Transportation, Inc’s expansion will total in excess of $127.5 million over the next 10 years. “The decision by PTI to relocate its new acquisition to Evansville is the result of our economic development team working closely with an existing employer committed to the success of the local economy,” said Mayor Lloyd Winnecke. “On behalf of the city, I would like to express appreciation to Ron Romain and his partners for creating 100 new jobs in Evansville, Ind.” At the request of the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville, the City of Evansville offered Professional Transportation, Inc. a 10 year Tax Phase-in on their real and personal property investments totaling approximately $5.45 million. The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered up to $675,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $85,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. These taxes are performance-based, meaning until Indiana residents are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. “Employers like PTI put Evansville above most regional communities when it comes to job creation. Our existing businesses continue to be a primary source of new employment opportunities,” said Debbie Dewey, President of the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville. About Professional Transportation, Inc. As part of United Companies, Inc., Professional Transportation, Inc. (PTI) was founded in 1980 and began its operations, serving as a crew transportation service for Class I railroads in the Midwest. PTI’s focus is on safety, dependability, on time performance and logistical solutions for over-the-road and dedicated yard van services to some of the biggest companies in the railroad industries. ###

Why Your Business Needs Social Media Marketing

It’s safe to say that you’ve probably noticed the rapid emergence of social media in today’s Internet centric society. Everyone and their grandma (seriously) have some sort of social media presence. It’s become a focal point in our day-to-day lives and even if you try, an impossible thing to escape. And this is no different for businesses. It’s come to the point, especially for newer generations, if your business isn’t on social media in some capacity you’re not even in existence at all in their eyes. That where Social Media Marketing comes in. But, why would a business need social media? You may still be thinking “but why would a business need social media marketing?” This question finds its roots from the early days of social networking. It used to be an outlet where you could keep tabs on your friends and family and share personal photos and updates about what is going on in your own life. This isn’t the case anymore as the social media landscape has morphed and evolved into a central hub for more than 81% of the United States population. Let’s take a deeper look into why your business would need social media. Your customers […]

UX Writing and Effective Website Content

by Hanna Roberts-Williams @ webFEAT Complete

Conversion reigns as the supreme ROI of SEO. It’s the biggest goal we have as content strategists and SEO gurus: present relevant content to a collection of users, who are looking for a specific answer, and convince them that they’ve found the product or service that will solve their problem. See the problem. Show the solution. Make the sale. Converting internet users from mere audience members to your potential customers is difficult to say the least. Not only are there multiple websites and companies targeting your users, but there’s also a time limit. Attention fades. And quickly. Because of this, your content must do more than just look pretty.  It must inform. It must engage. It must strike a balance between the two authorities of content: who is speaking and who is reading. With the short amount of time we, as writers, have to maintain a complete connection with our audience, we can’t afford to waste a moment on information that misrepresents our intent. Creating a profitable website is all about the way you frame your content. And the best way to frame your content is by reassessing its effectiveness from a UX (user experience) perspective. So let’s get started. […]

National Safety Council Recognizes PTI

by admin @ Professional Transportation, Inc.

In a joint statement, Steve McClellan, Vice President of Evansville, IN-based Professional Transportation, Inc. (PTI), and Bobby Vincent, Director of Safety, have announced that the National Safety Council has awarded to PTI its “Significant Improvement Award” for 2010. In his comments, Vincent stated that “while this Occupational Award is earned by meeting several different National Safety Council safety benchmarks, in general terms a company must demonstrate at least a 20% reduction in injuries or illnesses that involve days away from work in the January – December calendar year. This is PTI’s first such national award, and we are very pleased to be one of only 27 companies across the country to receive this honor.” According to Mr. McClellan,”I thank the National Safety Council for this award that is especially gratifying because it acknowledges the safety training and safety initiatives Bobby Vincent and his team of fourteen Field Safety Officers and four Regional Safety Coordinators have developed and implemented, with the assistance of the Field Operations team, that have lead to our documentable safety improvements. Even more satisfying is the fact these reductions occurred during a year realizing over 20% growth. All our Safety Officers and Coordinators are National Safety Council certified instructors trained in a variety of safety competencies including fleet safety, substance abuse detection, and fleet safety auditing. Their training and total commitment to making safety a first priority is what has allowed PTI to become a safety leader in the railroad crew transportation industry.” Founded in 1980, PTI provides crew transportation services to employees of some of the nation’s largest railroads.  As one of the largest such providers in the country, with operations in 26 states, PTI drivers log over 100 million miles annually, and through its many training, technology, and customer service initiatives, the company has a hard-earned reputation for providing safe, on-time crew transportation services for its many railroad customers. Professional Transportation, Inc. is part of the United Companies family of businesses. With corporate offices in Evansville, Indiana, United Companies, named by Indiana Business Magazine as one of Indiana‘s Top 50 Largest Private Companies, is comprised of United Leasing & Finance, Professional Transportation, Inc., and the Romain Automotive Group. With over 3,400 employees, United Companies has growing business operations throughout North America.
